Welcome to the first blog series of Purple Canine! :) If you have read my Travel Essentials post, you would know that I went to Luzon last January for a workation. One of the highlights of my travel was my visit to Tanay Rizal. I basically wanted to visit Tanay because of the urge and need to finally be near the nature again. And since we visited 3 tourist destinations in the said place, I decided to do a blog series called "Exploring Tanay". This, I made for me to share the wonders of this municipality :) Photo Credit: tanay.gov.ph HOW WE GOT IN TANAY Start point is Starmall Shaw Blvd where a mini FX station can be found. Just look for the Tanay sign board and prepare a fare of Php 70 per person. Travel time is around 2 hrs (traffic already included). Drop off of this route will be at Tanay Public Market where you will be greeted by several tricycle drivers offering a package tour :) As mentioned, we visited 3 places in Tanay: Ten Cents to Heaven, The Sierra Madre Hotel and Resort, and Daranak Falls. For all these places mentioned, we were asked for a Php 1,300 package tour by one of the tricycle drivers. The price was too much for us so we haggled and ended up for an Php 800 package tour :) Kuya tricycle driver's motorcycle. Forgot his name, sorry. Things to note: *UV Express station in Starmall Shaw Blvd starts to accept passengers at around 4-5am. *Last trip heading to Rizal is around 10-11PM *Last trip from Tanay Public Market to Starmall is 9PM. There are instances that last trip happens even before 9PM so to be safe, be in the public market at around 8:30PM. DOGS IN TANAY One thing that really caught my attention were the dogs roaming around the place. Some are stray and some are not. What concerns me is the fact that they roam freely in the road. I even saw some of them sleeping in the middle of the road. I'm guessing that these dogs did not develop fear in doing so because the roads in most Barangays in Tanay are clear. It's actually very rare to see cars and trucks pass by in most areas. Roads are as clear as this. One of the many dogs roaming in Tanay. On our way to Ten Cents to Heaven, Kuya trike driver stopped in front of a mini sari-sari store to buy some cigarette. There, we have witnessed such an unfortunate event. We saw a bleeding lifeless dog in the middle of the road and the people nearby did nothing but stare- the dog was hit by a car. All other dogs gathered around the lifeless dog and it was just a very painful sight. I wanted to get off the tricycle to at least remove the dog's body in the road when an officer came to do it. It was a relief, at least. I just hope they did bury the dog. MY PLEA: -PLEASE BE VERY CAUTIOUS WHEN DRIVING. IT IS INDEED TEMPTING TO INCREASE YOUR CAR SPEED IN A ROAD AS CLEAR AS THE IMAGE ABOVE, BUT BEAR IN MIND THAT ACCIDENTS DO HAPPEN- YOU MAY EITHER KILL SOMEONE, AN ANIMAL OR YOURSELF- Sorry for being emotional. I just believe I really need to include this in my blog. Anyhow, let's move on :) WHAT TO EXPECT IN TANAY The moment I set foot in Tanay, I felt like I was back in my hometown, Baguio City. I'm talking about Baguio City during 90's, okay? :) Just like Baguio, The temperature in Tanay is cool. I actually felt it more when we were already riding the tricycle on our way to Ten Cents. The wind was just so cold that I was literally chilling. Tanay is also a clean place with less air pollution and no annoying crowd. Some kids who I bet just came out from school and readily smiled when they saw our camera :) Such innocence makes me miss my childhood years :) Here, let me give you a glimpse of the wonderful places I managed to visit in my one whole day trip in Tanay :) TEN CENTS TO HEAVEN This was the farthest destination we had but it's all worth it.
