Aycardo Veterinary Center Inc- ReviewIf you already know me, you would know how passionate I am when it comes to DOGS. Now as a fur parent, I make sure that my dog's health is being well monitored. I learned about Aycardo Veterinary Clinic when my adopted dog Lassy got sick. When Lassy started to lose her appetite and started to vomit, I knew I had to bring her to the vet. To ensure that she will be well taken cared of, I did my quick search on google to find the best Vet Clinic in Cebu. I once had an experience with a Vet Clinic in Cebu and unfortunately did not like it. Hachiko was scheduled to have his anti rabies shot last, October 24 and I thought that it's going to be the best time for me to take photos of the clinic for the review I was planning to make. Let us start with their location. Aycardo Veterinary Clinic has two branches in Cebu, Main Clinic 68 J. Alcantara St. (P. del Rosario Extension), Sambag I, Cebu City Talisay Branch Sombria, Lawaan I Talisay City,Cebu By the way, this review is focused on their Main Clinic. Moving on, below are the animals they treat. Image above was taken from their brochure and as you can obviously see, they treat DOGS, CATS, BIRDS, and RABBITS. Now here are the services they offer. Personally, I don't feel good about the ear cropping and tail docking procedures. There have been a lot of arguments on the necessity of ear cropping and tail docking on dogs and for me, I find it not necessary at all. Allow me to give you a bit more information about these procedures and why I am totally against it. Docking -- removing part or all of a dog’s tail, usually with surgical scissors. This is done when a dog is just a few days old and her tail’s still “soft.” This surgery is also known as “bobbing.” Cropping -- cutting off the floppy part of a dog’s ear and is usually performed on anesthetized dogs between 6 and 12 weeks old. The ears are then taped to a hard surface for several weeks while they heal so they stay upright. Definition is taken from this website: http://pets.webmd.com/dogs/features/ear-cropping-and-tail-docking Some pet owners want these procedures to be done to their dogs so the dog would look more "beautiful" and it will look more like his/her "breed" WHICH FOR ME IS COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY! Sadly, A number of Vet Clinic still see nothing wrong with mutilating a dog so long as the fur mom/dad is willing to pay for it. Anyhow, let's move on to the clinic itself. SETTING Images above show the receiving area of the clinic. It's quite spacious and it does smell clean. AC is also working pretty well, and along with one (1) electric fan, humidity will never be an issue. In the same area, you will get to see "pet stuff" to which they sell. They have dog food and shampoo just to name a few. They also have a TV to at least entertain their clients while waiting for their turn. Note: That's Hachiko's head :) From the receiving area, you will see their two EXAM ROOMS where they do the check up and other procedures like vaccine shots, blood extraction, poop "extraction", and the like. Now on the right side of the EXAM ROOM 2 is the laboratory space where of course they do their laboratory works. Apologies for the blurry picture, Hachiko was bugging me that time :) For the ward, I intentionally did not take photos of the area because I don't want to and I'm not even sure if I will be allowed to do that. Let's just call it delikadeza or respect for the fur parents and their sick pets who may be confined at that time. With that, let me just describe the area as vivid as I can. They actually have two wards. Ward one would be "inside" the clinic where they can accommodate around 4-5 animals. While Ward two is "outside" the clinic but within the building premises. I believe that the animals placed there are those who have illness that can easily be transmitted to other animals. I am unsure though as to how many animals can be accommodated in Ward 2 because of the reason below. To be honest, I don't like the "outside" ward since I find it dirty. Trash are actually there. When I say trash, these are boxes of dextrose, empty dextrose, used gloves, and a lot more. There are also mosquitos. I feel bad for the animals who are placed in that ward and I hope they will do something about it. Lassy was placed there, by the way CUSTOMER SERVICE The first time I stepped in Aycardo Clinic which was around October of 2014, I was greeted by a friendly and knowledgeable receptionist. The Vet who checked Lassy was good. Good in the sense that he did explain everything that I need to know about Lassy's condition. He was also patient and kind enough to answer all my questions. In short, staff were okay. However, I noticed that this year, I have not seen the same receptionist I saw during the first few times I visited the clinic. Seems like the receptionist in charge is already random. MY EXPERIENCES FIRST When Hachiko was admitted last July this year, the receptionist I encountered seemed not to know what she was doing. When I asked her questions, she looked so unsure and she had to ask someone else to give me an answer (that, I appreciate though). NOTE: I have totally nothing against the said receptionist. Maybe she just needs proper orientation and a little bit of training. Next, Hachi's Vet Prescription was a little confusing and when I asked the Vet, he said that "kahibaw na ang receptionist ana Ma'am" which means the receptionist will be the one to help me further. Well, again the receptionist was unsure as well. To cut the long story short, we went home and when I went to a drugstore to buy Hachi's med, the pharmacist informed me that the prescription is confusing. Thus, I had to go back to the clinic. The vet sincerely apologized, though. SECOND For countless times that I have called Aycardo clinic, I have never encountered someone who's not accommodating. However, when I called the clinic twice last week to verify the price for rabies shot and to double check their clinic hours on a Saturday, the lady who answered my phone calls seemed to be not in the mood to answer the call ( no life at all when talking) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ To sum it up, see below the PROS and CONS of the clinic:
PROS: 1. Affordable YET quality service (Services Offered). 2. Veterinarians show compassion to the animals. 3. Doc Gerald Aycardo is very friendly and accommodating to all clients. 4.Their website is "active". I've seen several inquiries on their website and saw prompt responses from Doc Gerald himself. If responses aren't prompt for some reasons, at least they do apologize :) CONS 1. Customer Service needs a little improvement. Though most of the staff in Aycardo are accommodating, some still need proper training and orientation. 2. Main clinic may be hard to locate for the beginners. I'm not really sure why some taxi drivers don't know the address. Here's how I instruct the taxi drivers in Cebuano "Sa private, kuya kanang duol sa San Carlos girls high" 3. Ward 2 of the main clinic needs to be cleaned. This is for the comfort of the animals admitted and for their humans who are visiting them. Personally, I still trust Hachiko's health needs to Aycardo because of the PROS written above. If they can just work on their CON's then it would be a lot better. :) Contact Aycardo through these numbers: Phone: (032) 418-2021 Mobile: (0916) 594-345 Visit their FB page. https://www.facebook.com/aycardovetcenter Visit their website. aycardovetcenter.com -JEN- Like my FB page here to be updated on my latest blog posts. |
