For those who don't have a blemish free skin like me, a good quality concealer is going to be your best friend. Though there are quite a number of affordable concealers sold in our local beauty counters, some aren't of good quality. And when you finally find a good quality concealer, most of the time, it doesn't match your Filipina skin tone. As a remedy, here is an easy and affordable DIY concealer which offers pretty awesome coverage. For this DIY concealer, we will need the following: 1. Compact Powder or Loose Powder (shade of your choice) 2. Moisturizer 3. Primer or Mattifier 4. Bowl or any container where we can mix all the "ingredients" 5. Spoon or spatula 6. Empty container to house our DIY concealer STEPS TO FOLLOW 1. Scrape out some of your powder foundation from the compact or get an ample amount of loose powder. On my end, I chose to use a loose powder w/ a yellow undertone. This powder by the way is from Fashion 21. Note that you may combine different powders to achieve your best match. 2. Add in the moisturizer. This helps melt the powder to achieve a creamy like consistency. What I have here is the Myra E moisturizer which also has a built in SPF 15. 3. Add a primer or mattifier. You don't want a sticky concealer, do you? Here I used the Quick FX Mattifier. Aside from mattifying your concealer, this would also help the concealer stay on your skin for a good amount of time. After adding all these good stuff in one container, go ahead and MIX! The key here is balancing all the said ingredients. If you want your DIY concealer to be thick, then you may add more powder. However, if you want little liquidy concealer, then add more moisturizer. Be mindful though that the more moisturizer you add, the lesser coverage you'll get. While mixing, I find that the mixture is too dark for me so I added a lighter shade of powder and a bit more of a moisturizer. Continue to mix and once you are happy with the consistency and coverage, transfer your DIY concealer to an empty container for hygienic purposes and of course to make it look more presentable :) Here's mine :) And here are the swatches. As you can see, swatch A is too dark and too dry that's why I added a lighter shade of powder and more moisturizer. The result? well that's swatch B :) Now here's the most awaited part. Does it really work? Just look at the image below and be the judge :) I applied a thin layer of my DIY concealer here. NOTE: My lip color also changed not because I used a filter but I applied my MLBB lip pencil from Nichido on the second picture.
This concealer ended up to have a cream to powder texture/consistency. Once it sets, it doesn't feel like you have a concealer on. It feels really light and matte. Coverage wise, it does give a medium to full coverage (it depends on the blemish that you need to conceal). I'm afraid though that this concealer is not buildable since it sets very fast. It will look cakey once you add more layer. I guess I have to add more moisturizer next time. This is my first time to do this so I forgive myself haha. Hope this blog post helps and let me know the result of your DIY concealer should you wish to try this out :) -JEN- Like my FB page here to be updated on my latest blog posts. |
