A couple of weeks ago, I have posted a Mini San San Haul where this "New" San San Matte Finish Liquid Foundation was included. This particular foundation is technically not NEW since this has been in the market for years now. I tagged it as NEW though because this has a new packaging, a slightly new formulation, and a new shade name too :)
PRIZE, WHERE TO GET, AND PACKAGING
This San San Matte Finish Liquid Foundation is priced at Php 140 with 30ml of product. San San cosmetics are exclusively sold at HBC stores. For the packaging, nothing much has changed comparing it to the old one. The product is still contained in a glass container that looks like a big nail polish. The only difference now is the color of its cap. The old one has a light blue cap while this new one has a shining shimmering splendid metallic like blue cap :)

Ingredients
The cap has an attached spatula which serves as its applicator. However, for hygienic purposes I don't directly apply the product on my face using the spatula. I only use it to get the right amount of foundation from the container and transfer it at the back of my hand or a mixing plate.
Just like any other San San product, the Mfg. Date and Exp. Date are printed on the box which is always a thumbs up! It would be a lot better though if these dates are also printed on the bottle so we would still be aware of the expiration date even if we already lost the box :)
SWATCH, CONSISTENCY, AND SCENT
As you can clearly see in the image below, the consistency of this San San Liquid Matte foundation is quite thick. Color wise, the shade 03 Rich Sienna is totally the same with the old San San Liquid Matte Foundation in "03" they just added a more creative name shade which isn't bad at all :) This liquid foundation I believe has 4 shades and "03 Rich Sienna" is the second to the darkest one. Though this shade is darker than my skin color, I still chose to pick this up because among 4 shades available, "03 Rich Sienna" has an obvious yellow under tone. Anyhow, I plan to pair this with my favorite EB Advance BB cream in Oriental to get my perfect shade :) For the scent, it still smells like a sweet coconut with a hint of vanilla. A scent that doesn't bother me at all :)
COVERAGE
Okay, let's move on to one of the most important features of a foundation, the coverage.
Here's a side by side comparison of my bare face and my face with just one layer of San San Liquid Matte Foundation. I used a flat top brush to apply the product in a dabbing motion.
Alright, here's how ugly my skin look like up close. I have to show it because I want to show you how this San San Matte Foundation covers imperfections.
I can confidently say that this foundation can provide a medium to full coverage. Yes, it is buildable:) The 2nd image above shows a side of my face with a thin layer of the foundation and it managed to cover most of my imperfections. Some of my spots are still a bit visible but a second layer would definitely cover them all. I chose not to add a second layer though because I was on my way to work. As you can see, shade #3 Rich Sienna made my face look dark and an additional layer of this foundation would not be a very good idea :)
By the way, I used a baby powder from Tender Care to set my foundation. I already ran out of my favorite Nichido Loose Powder so I opted to use a baby powder. At least, it did help tone down the dark foundation on my face :)
LONGEVITY
I've used this San San Matte Liquid Foundation twice at work now just to see if I will be getting the same result and yes, I did get the same result. Here's how it performed :)
8:13 AM
Fresh makeup on :) The dark shade of the foundation isn't very obvious yet because I just set it with a baby powder. However, I know that my face would really look dark after a few hours because aside from the fact that I'm wearing a foundation darker than my skin color, I also do have an acidic skin. How's that? (-_-)
1:45 PM
I told you, haha. I looked like I've been to the beach and intentionally tanned just my face :) My face actually looked a lot darker in person. Oh well, #parasablog :) Moving on, coverage was still pretty much okay at this time and my T-zone area was just a bit oily so I just used a tissue paper to blot.
6:03 PM
For almost 10 hrs, I would like to let you know that I did not retouch and here's how I looked like. There's a little bit of shine on my forehead, temples, and nose but it doesn't look nasty, if you know what I mean :) Coverage still looks decent but if you'll look closely, my darkest spots are already peeking through which means I obviously need to retouch. But since I was on my way home, I decided not to retouch anymore and just blot my oil instead.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Overall, I do recommend this San San Liquid Matte Foundation. I have loved this before and I love it now even more. Who wouldn't want an SPF in their foundation? :) PRO/S: 1. Undeniably affordable for a good liquid foundation 2. Provides medium to full coverage 3. Readily available in all HBC stores 4. Manufacturing Date and Expiration Date are clearly stated on the box 5. Long lasting 6. Can keep oiliness at bay for a good amount of time especially if you use a primer and a good setting powder. CON/S: 1. Scent may be over powering for some 2. Foundation easily transfers to tissue, blotting sheet, and textile i.e. your clothes 3. Very limited shade to choose from. Questions? just drop them below :) -JEN- Like my FB page here to be updated on my latest blog posts. |
